Accelerating Azure-Powered Digital Transformation in Construction & Engineering
Client Overview
Our client, a leading player in the UK construction and engineering sector, boasts a century-long legacy of delivering significant UK civil engineering and national critical infrastructure projects.
The Challenge
The client strategically acknowledged the critical value of data, and the pivotal role digital advancement plays in maintaining competitive advantage. They selected Microsoft Azure as a cornerstone of their strategy to tap into its robust cloud native capabilities.
A complex business operating in highly regulated environments including direct and joint venture programs, they required a streamlined approach to technology deployment. Consequently, they engaged an Azure specialist partner to expedite their transition to a cloud native setup.
The Solution
BlakYaks conducted a thorough evaluation of the existing technology landscape and restructured the client’s Azure environment for optimal performance. The objective was to enhance architectural design, implement new security standards and operational processes based on DevSecOps.
This redesign included setting up a new code-driven Azure landing zone, consolidation of disparate Azure subscriptions and the migration / modernisation of applications, workloads, and services from data centres to Azure leveraging Azure's Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Serverless technologies.
Outcomes
The partnership with BlakYaks which includes 24x7 Azure operational support and adaptable capacity-on-demand, has allowed the client to address cloud engineering and operational challenges, propelling their Azure-driven digital strategy forward.
By managing their Azure platform with code, the client has improved operational efficiency, enhanced security posture (mitigating risk), and optimised Azure run costs.
This program has delivered real business benefits, simplified the client’s estate, and facilitated the swift onboarding of new civil engineering projects (leveraging Azure’s data and analytics capabilities) and instilled real confidence in the client's wider Azure-focused modernisation initiatives.
